Is my photo uploaded to a server?
Nothing is uploaded. The file is read into memory by the page and processed by your own browser, and the site’s Content Security Policy blocks outbound connections entirely — so it cannot send your file anywhere even if it tried.
How much quality will I lose?
You decide, and you can see it. The preview shows the compressed result beside the original with both file sizes, so you can find the point where the saving stops being worth it rather than guessing.
Does this work on PNGs?
Yes, though the gains differ. Photographs compress dramatically; flat graphics, logos and screenshots are already efficient as PNG and may barely shrink.
Will EXIF data be kept?
Re-encoding drops the metadata, including any GPS coordinates. If you want to inspect or deliberately strip metadata, the Image Metadata tool shows exactly what a photo carries.
