Is my document uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded. The file is read into memory by the page and processed by your own browser, and the site’s Content Security Policy blocks outbound connections entirely — so it cannot send your file anywhere even if it tried.
Will the text still be selectable afterwards?
No, and this is the honest trade-off. Compression works by rendering each page to an image, so the output is pictures of pages. Text stops being selectable or searchable. Use it for scans and image-heavy documents, not contracts you need to search.
Why did my PDF get bigger?
Because a text-only PDF is already far smaller than an image of the same page. Rasterising it adds bytes rather than removing them. The tool tells you when the output came out larger so you can keep the original.
How much smaller should I expect?
Scanned and photographic documents routinely shrink by around 90 per cent or more. Documents that are mostly text are the ones that gain nothing.
